In Loving Memory of Wilbur

A beloved rescue, companion, and very good boy

Wilbur was much more than a beloved pet; he was family, a faithful companion, a source of comfort, and a very special soul who came into our lives at exactly the right time. Wilbur was a rescue from the Williams County Humane Society. In April 2022, his profile appeared on Mom’s Facebook feed, and somehow, we knew he was meant to find us. He came into our lives during a time when our hearts were still grieving the loss of Sofie. In his own quiet and wonderful way, Wilbur helped heal a hole in our hearts and reminded us that love can find us when we need it most.

From the day he found us, Wilbur was such a good boy.

He loved life and especially loved his adventures. He enjoyed the Glass City Dog Park and the new dog park in Williams County. He absolutely loved his time at daycare at Louie’s, where he was always happy to spend time with his friends. He loved car rides, walks at the fairgrounds, and traveling with his family. He was a well-traveled dog who especially enjoyed his time at the campground. In time, he even learned to love riding around in the golf cart, taking in everything around him.

Wilbur also had a few very important traditions. Chief among them was finding the perfect tree. He never met a good tree he didn’t think deserved a proper introduction. He would carefully select his favorite, leave his unmistakable Wilbur signature, and proudly move on—because there were always more trees to inspect. He took his tree business very seriously, and we’re pretty sure he considered it one of his greatest contributions to the community.

Wilbur had a way of making himself known wherever he went. He greeted people at the office, made friends along the way, and firmly believed that every drive-through window was created especially for him—and, naturally, for the treats waiting on the other side.

He was our nosey old man, quietly keeping watch over the world around him. He was observant, curious, and always seemed to know what was going on. And whenever he witnessed what he considered an injustice, he made sure his opinion was heard with a grunt or a grumble. That was Wilbur—quietly watching, faithfully loving, and never afraid to speak his mind.

Wilbur brought laughter, companionship, comfort, and countless treasured memories into our lives. He taught us that sometimes the animals we rescue end up rescuing us right back.

He was deeply loved, thoroughly spoiled, and, most importantly, he knew he was home.

Wilbur is survived by his loving parents, Dennis and Deidre Cole, and his feline brothers, Templeton and Taylor. He will be greatly missed by his human brothers, extended family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.

Wilbur touched many lives with his gentle presence, his curious nature, his unforgettable grumbles, his love of treats and adventure, and his ability to make even the simplest moments memorable. His absence leaves a space that can never truly be filled, but the memories he gave us will remain in our hearts forever.

Run free, sweet Wilbur.

Thank you for finding us.

Thank you for helping us heal.

Thank you for every adventure, every greeting, every grumble, every perfectly chosen tree, and every treasured memory.

Thank you for being such a good boy.

Until we meet again, our beloved nosey old man.

You will forever have a piece of our hearts.
